Craneflies Webinar

This session will provide an overview to British Craneflies (including the families; Cylindrotomidae (damsel craneflies), Pediicidae (hairy-eyed craneflies), Limoniidae (short-palped craneflies), Tipulidae (long-palped craneflies) – and their allies, the Trichoceridae (winter gnats) and Ptychopteridae (fold-winged craneflies). We’ll look at their ecological niches, how to start identifying them, and their recording.
Tutor information: Pete Boardman is a co-ordinator and recorder for the UK Cranefly Recording Scheme and until recently was a professional entomologist in Natural England, where he still works. He has recorded craneflies since circa 2005, written two county atlases of the Shropshire fauna, and has recently named 24 new cranefly species to science from Cameroon and Corsica. He once saw a slug eating a chip.
The presentation will be followed by an interactive question and answer session.
