Amara Beetles Workshop

7th March | 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

Book here

This workshop will focus on the ground beetle genus Amara. This is a challenging group of 27 species in Britain, many of which are very similar in their external morphology and often confused with each other. We will make use of existing keys in addition to new resources under development focussing on dissecting both male and female genitalia, which should be of interest to those with a broader interest in identifying beetles.

Our Tutor: Chris Foster is based at the University of Reading where he teaches ecology and entomology, including leadership of the MSc by Research in Entomology. He has coordinated the national recording scheme for Carabidae since 2019.

Please note this is an advanced workshop, previous experience of using keys to identify beetles is necessary to get the most out of this learning opportunity.
