A spreadsheet version of this checklist is available here – a PDF version can be downloaded from the link below.
This is a first attempt to provide a basic provisional checklist of the Testaceous Nocturnal Ichneumonoidea for Lancashire and Cheshire. We hope that this will help provide an initial reference for recorders to give context to their records.
***Please note that recent (2019) DNA work on the Swedish fauna has revealed new species, which may lead to the splitting of some of those species listed in this checklist. Any new British checklist is likely to reflect these changes, which will eventually filter down into an update of this checklist in due course***
We would like to thank the following data providers for sharing the records on which this checklist is based; the Nocturnal Ichneumonoidea Recording Scheme, National Museums Liverpool, Greater Manchester Local Record Centre, RECORD (Local Record Centre for Cheshire), Merseyside Biobank (Local Record Centre for Merseyside), and individual submissions from Steve Garland and Clive Washington. It is worth noting that data from specimens at other museums in the region have not yet been extracted and could potentially provide much new information for this checklist. We would also like to thank Tony Hunter for his support and advice in creating this document, and for contributing a large number of records of his own.
It is intended that this checklist can be developed and updated as interest in the group grows and more records are submitted.
Newcomers to this understudied group can access a wealth of information and up to date keys from the National Recording Scheme website. We recommend iRecord as a platform for submitted new records – this gives the national recording scheme and relevant local records centre/s immediate access to the data.
