Micro-moth field signs Webinar

2nd February 2021 | 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Many micro-moth species can be recorded in the field without encountering the adult moths. Such field work involves using a variety of techniques to detect the early stages of the moths and can be performed at any time of the year. Searching through leaf litter, collecting fallen leaves, opening stems and catkins, and looking in ponds can all be productive ways to record Britain’s microlepidoptera.

This webinar will reveal some of these techniques, particular looking at those species to be found at this time of year.

Ben Smart is an amateur entomologist and keen photographer with a special interest in the early stages of microlepidoptera. He is the author of Micro-moth Field Tips: A Guide to Finding the Early Stages in Lancashire and Cheshire, and is currently working on Volume two, due for publication later this year. He was the main photographer for The Field Guide to the Micro-moths of Great Britain and Ireland, supplying approximately 200 photos of larvae and micro-moth field signs for that work.

We will end with an interactive question and answer session.

Please book your space via Eventbrite and you will be sent information on how to join the webinar.

This session will run on Zoom. If you are new to Zoom you will need to create a Zoom account and download their software. This is all free and you can do so here: https://zoom.us/

You can use a laptop/desktop computer, smartphone or tablet and it isn’t necessary to have a webcam or microphone to participate.

Further info on how to join a zoom meeting can be found here.
