There are 27 species of Pseudoscorpions known from Britain. These tiny carnivorous arachnids are rarely encountered by naturalists, but some species are surprisingly common – if you know how to find them.

Liam Andrews and Francis Farr-Cox will introduce you to these enigmatic invertebrates. The course will cover sampling methods, biology and microscopic identification using the World Museum’s preserved collections.

The recently published FSC chart covering Pseudoscorpions has revitalised interest in this neglected group. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase copies of this affordable and very useful resource on the day. We also hope to have live specimens on display so that people can familiarise themselves with their appearance.

This course is jointly organised by Cofnod, the World Museum Liverpool and the British Arachnological Society. It is a rare opportunity to learn more about these fascinating creatures and examine a good proportion of the UK fauna. The course is aimed at beginners, but it would be an advantage to have some previous experience working with invertebrates down a microscope.

Places are limited to ensure a good tutor-to-student ratio. Consequently, early booking is advisable since this is likely to be a very popular course.

Booking at: www.cofnod.org.uk/Bookings (£15 per person).
