Yarrow Valley Country Park was first established in 1987 on land previously used for bleaching, dyeing, calico printing and mining. The park is now an important wildlife resource both within the district and county, with 14 biological heritage sites accounting for 60 per cent of the park. The most important ecological feature of the park is the presence of large areas of mature ancient woodland.

• New to VC59. Appears widely recorded in the UK according to NBN Atlas but apparently few regional records.
• An indicator species for good quality base-rich conditions according to Stubbs (2021)

Conicera dauci (Phoridae), R. Zloch.

• New to VC59 and the region. 31 records on NBN Atlas scattered further south across England and Wales.
• Biological information not readily available.

Sphegina verecunda (Syrphidae), R. Zloch.

• Just two previous VC59 records from 1989.
• Associated with damp woodland. Widespread but local in the UK.
