A selection of notable records reported to Tanyptera. Includes older, but newly recognised regional vice county records (dates blue). ‘The region’ = VC58, 58, 60 + Cheshire, Lancs, Merseyside, Greater Manchester.
Bilobella braunerae (Neanuridae), Brabyns Park, Marple, VC58, 20/2, R. Atherton. Confirmed by Peter Shaw.
Appears new to VC58 and the NW region.
c.40 spotted under a small area of bark on a fallen Beech branch.
First found in the UK by Pete Boardman in Shropshire in 2015.
The UK’s only pink collembolan.
Diplopoda (Millipedes)
Brachydesmus superus (Polydesmidae), Reynolds Park, Woolston, VC59, 24/2, S. Marley.
Appears new to VC59 and Merseyside despite being a common and widespread species in Britain and Ireland.
Found under a log.
A generalist – recorded from a very wide range of habitats

Heterostylodes nominabilis (Anthomyiidae), Myers Allotment, Morecambe Bay, VC60, 22/05/2021, R. Zloch.
Newly recognised first record for VC60.
Appears widely distributed in Great Britain according to NBN Atlas (112 records).
Lasiomma anthomyinum (Anthomyiidae), Kit Brow, Galgate, VC60, 9/06/2021, R. Zloch.
Newly recognised first record for VC60.
Appears widely distributed in England and Wales, and has been recorded as far North as Edinburgh according to NBN Atlas (50 records).
Hemiptera (True Bugs)
Ash Whitefly Siphoninus phillyreae (Aleyrodidae), Formby, VC59, 10/11/2022, S. McWilliam.
Appears new to VC59 and the NW region.
Whiteflies a very poorly recorded group of bugs and therefore national status is not well understood.
Found on Hawthorn.
Acericerus heydenii (Cicadellidae), Formby, VC59, 19/02, P. Smith.
Found inside a car.
This leafhopper has spread rapidly through the UK since being detected in 2010 in southern England. There are now 4 regional records, having been first identified by Steve McWilliam in Woolston in 2021. Apparently not yet recorded from VC60.
