Entomological Field Techniques Part 1

This webinar will examine the rationale of structured field entomology and look in depth at survey techniques to enable the carrying out of field surveys to inform Pantheon software analysis of invertebrate assemblages, or other entomological outputs. We will look at the ethics and regulations in regard to collecting specimens, the best techniques to use in the field, and assess what level of information we need to be able to get useful analysis ready for Pantheon. (A second webinar will look at the use of Pantheon analysis software – book here). We’ll look at real survey reports and see how they tackled surveys and the outputs from them.
Tutor information: Pete Boardman has been a professional entomologist for over two decades. He works for Natural England in a Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment role, and advises on entomology. He has specialised on craneflies since circa 2005, written two county atlases of the Shropshire fauna, and has recently named 24 new cranefly species to science from Cameroon and Corsica. He is a national co-ordinator of the UK Cranefly Recording Scheme, and a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. He once saw a slug eating a chip.
The presentation will be followed by an interactive question and answer session.
