Covers Diptera of the families Tipulidae to Syrphidae and is the second supplement to The Diptera of Lancashire and Cheshire—Part 1 by L. N. Kidd and A. Brindle, published by the Lancashire and Cheshire Fauna Committee in 1959. The first supplement appeared in the 34th Report (1964) and also separately as Publication No. 46 of the Committee.

Many of the families included now have modern checklist documents produced by Phil Brighton or Glenn Rostron, that supersede this list.
