Founded in 1871, the society continues to offer an annual programme of talks, currently monthly between September and April. In 2019, the society also held two joint field meetings with the Tanyptera Project – Brookhouse Moss and Oakhanger Moss on 22nd May, and Hale Duck Decoy on 3rd July.

The society owns a British Lepidoptera specimen collection comprising 80 drawers across two cabinets which are housed at World Museum, Liverpool. This is most useful as a synoptic collection of the British fauna, particularly for macro-Lepidoptera and local species.

The society also owns a invertebrate library comprising a few hundred books and journals, housed within the Entomology library at World Museum. The library catalogue is currently being updated (Jan 2020) by Phil Brighton and the latest listings will be available soon. The previous published catalogue; LCES journals: ‘Supplement to the Annual Report & Proceedings Vol 127 2003’ may be downloaded from here. Library books may be borrowed by society members for up to 6 months. Please contact Leanna Dixon for loans or Phil Brighton (LCES librarian) for all other library enquiries.

Between 1881 to 2010 the society produced a (mostly) annual journal series with other occasional publications covering all aspects of regional entomology, with numerous articles and checklists providing context for current Entomologists in the region. All the journals are available to download as searchable, bookmarked PDFs having been scanned in 2017 (funded by Tanyptera Trust). More information
